Abuse in care public apologies: Easy Read
On the 12 November 2024 the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Christopher Luxon made a formal apology to survivors of abuse in care.
This was followed by a statement from the Leader of the Opposition, Rt Hon Christopher Hipkins.
Apologies were also made by 7 public sector leaders including Oranga Tamariki, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health.
People First NZ National Chairperson Michael Aldridge said, “I thought the public apology said the right things, but it was very long overdue. I hope steps are taken for survivors get the right support and make changes to stop abuse in the future.”
